Advice so you're not like the 80% I share in this email
I hate when to see someone with exceptional talent not win (that is, unless they’re cocky AF).
Think about the NBA…players like Charles Barkley, Allen Iverson, Chris Paul…all of these guys were/are phenomenal players but could never quite close the deal and win the championship.
Could be for a variety of reasons, bad teams, tough opponents, poor officiating, injury, coaching mistake, missed shot, but for some reason it just never worked out in the end for them.
They had/have all the talent in the world, but never reached the pinnacle.
Now, I don’t feel too bad because all 3 of these guys are multi-millionaires, but still, you get the point.
I feel this way about solopreneurship.
I’ve met some amazing people over the past 11 months (i.e. when I started taking solopreneurship seriously) and sadly:
- about 50% have quit
- another 30% aren’t doing so hot
- and the remaining 20% are either doing well or just starting out
All phenomenal talents but only a few that are “making it”.
I hate that.
But here’s the thing, you don’t even have to be a phenomenal talent:

A common mistake I see is not understanding your audience’s needs and painpoints.
So to make sure you don’t fall into the trap of phenomenal talent with no results, here’s three things you can do (even if you have little to no social media followings) to identify these challenges.
- Use this CGPT prompt to define your ICP and specific challenges your ICP may be facing:
I’m building a solo business and I need to define my ICP. Ask me no more than 10 questions, one at a time and after I’m done answering all of them, create a table that lists an ICP attribute and provides detail about the attribute. I plan to take these attributes and do market research on them so I can see if I can create a viable business for these people. Make sure to call out potential challenges this ICP may be having.
- On X, use XPro (pro.twitter.com) to do a search on a specific keyword that your prompt provides. Check to see if people are talking about it.
- If you see recent / engaging posts on the topic, great! If not, you may want to check other platforms (LinkedIn, Reddit, etc.) to see if you find much. If not, you may to reconsider your business. If you do see quite a bit of chatter about your topic chosen, you may be onto something.
- Engage with the content you see in this search. If you get a response, send them a DM to see if you can spend 30 minutes discussing the topic in more detail.
When you spend a few minutes discussing the topic in more detail, you’ll start to uncover this particular person’s current state, things they’ve learned and what roadblocks exist.
You now have one validated piece of evidence of a challenge to solve.
In my business, I discovered that most people are stuck trying to figure out which problem to solve, hence why I wrote this email.
See how that works 😀?
