finding a problem is a problem

Read Time: 3m

Endless ChatGPT prompting.

Overthinking.

Getting frustrated.

Trying to find a problem to solve as a solopreneur can be a challenge, but it doesn’t have to be.

I ran a poll recently here and this was the top voted challenge so far (if you haven’t voted, I’d love to get your input).

The best way I’ve found to discover problems is to talk to others.

Social media is a tiny sliver of what’s ACTUALLY going on in someone’s life.

For example, on X I talk about all the components that are necessary to generate consistent, solopreneur revenue and I love finding ways to accelerate the process (various tools, processes I use, things I do).

You wouldn’t know that I have 4 kids, I’ve been trying to fix a toilet for way too long so I finally caved to a plumber who knocked it out in 20 minutes (shame on me for being so stubborn), work/life balance is a constant challenge for me, sometimes I wonder if I’m doing enough to help my kids be successful, I worry about my parents as they get older, etc.

If you got me on a call you would find 3-4 threads to pull on there that, potentially you could help me with.

See how I don’t talk about all of those things above, but maybe if you got me on a call or asked me some deeper questions, you may find that I’m struggling with certain things?

I encourage you to do this when you find yourself spinning, trying to prompt your way to finding a challenge to solve.

Then, I’d encourage you to follow the advice in my tweet below:

Common advice I see is to start your solo business with what you know. I have a major caveat to that: you should only do that if you actually find the topic interesting.
